The United
States Marine Corps (USMC) is a branch of the United States armed forces responsible for providing force
projection from the sea, using the mobility of the U.S. Navy to rapidly deliver
combined-arms task forces and is one of seven uniformed services. Administratively
within the Department of the Navy, operationally the U.S. Marine Corps acts as
a separate branch of the military, often working closely with US Naval forces
for training, transportation, and logistic purposes.

The 1st
Marine Division is the oldest, largest (active duty), and most decorated division
in the United States Marine Corps representing a combat-ready force of more
than 19,000 men and women. It is one of 3 active duty divisions in the Marine
Corps today and is a multi-role, expeditionary ground combat force. Nicknamed
"The Old Breed", it provides the ground combat element of the I
Marine Expeditionary Force (I MEF) and is headquartered at Marine Corps Base
Camp Pendleton, California.

The 5th Marine Regiment is an infantry regiment of the United States Marine
Corps based at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California. It is the most
highly decorated regiment in the Marine Corps and falls under the command of
the 1st Marine Division and the I Marine Expeditionary Force (I MEF).
The Regiment comprises four

Sailors. They fall under the command of the 5th Marine Regiment and the 1st
Marine Division
